Start operating carrier check at RWG

Automatic control at the terminal gate on the operating carrier. This new way of working always ensures that the right driver is given access to the terminal. Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG), as the fourth container terminal in Rotterdam, has started rolling out this final link in the Secure Chain. Starting from 1 October 2024, RWG will automatically verify at the gate whether the TAR-code is correct and whether the EAN number on the visiting driver’s CargoCard matches the EAN number in the pre-notification via Portbase. The issuance of EAN numbers is handled by Secure Logistics.

The check is done by comparing the EAN number on the visiting driver’s CargoCard with the EAN number in the carrier’s Portbase pre-notification. Only if both numbers match will the gate open. Although RWG will introduce the check on the executing carrier as of 1 October 2024, as part of the process to make container release and collection safer and more reliable, the actual enforcement of this check will take place at a later date.

At the ECT Delta terminal, the ECT Euromax terminal (both part of Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam), and Hutchison Ports Delta II, the executive carrier check is also in operation. APM Terminals Maasvlakte II is preparing. All the terminal operators see the check on the operating carrier as a natural final element of releasing and collecting containers more safely and reliably via the Secure Chain.
